Summer is Over

The kids have all started back to school.  The school bell is ringing and the buses are making their way out and about.

I remember how empty the house always seemed the first day of school.  How I had wanted just a day without baking, crafts, tea parties, picnics, listening to the arguing over the tv, and all the other little things they did all day.  Then once that first day was here it was like I was lost.

Mothers with little ones who have the privilege of being able to stay home with them at least through preschool treasure those moments.  They are gone so quickly.

The older I get the more I realize that my Aunt Ruth was right.  The older you get the faster time goes.

Slow down, take your time.  Some day you will wish that you could hold them in your lap again.  To pass the day in the backyard picnicking.  To know you could glance out your kitchen window and smile at their antics or rush out the back door to settle a dispute.

Although now it seems like summer lasts forever and you are as ready for them to go back as they are to get out of the house and start a new adventure, treasure it.  Once it is gone, it is gone.
